about
Zee Erf go back to their roots to release an unapologetic eighties retrospective single “L.A. SOURCE”, fusing influence and innovation, intelligence and intuition, casting from the crucible a new reimagining from the halls of jazz funk.
It looks back to a time in our lives when we were influenced by music from the west coast of America, and how a few years later, we became part of the UK scene, forming it’s own version of this. I’m asking myself how are we true to ourselves now, do we know what true was, or is, do we know who we were, or are?
Creative expression isn’t born in an isolation tank; it comes from our lasting influences, things that inspire us. In a dream we would walk through the art deco frontage of a very cool LA diner, take one of the huge, leather bar seats and lazily look out through a glass window on to the world. There will be something that drives us to firm up new ideas, something, that lights the blue, magic touch paper, which allows our music to assimilate influences, and become a new super-fluid expression.
We take what went before, add a bit of ourselves and pour the whole into a melting pot, our vinyl crucible. Where it cools and transforms those raw materials, with sparks and steam, something fresh and dynamic, bursting from the coiled music hemispheres, dancing it’s vitality and energy into life.
This composition features the remarkable talents of Christian Brewer who was so sadly taken from this world in February 2021
